I can't recall a historical fiction book s within this genre that has been so beautifully mortal heart robin lafevers with strong female characters. That being said, Mortal Heart is probably my least favorite book in this series, the second book Dark Triumph the best.
Mortal Heart is Annith's story. We know her from the previous books, as she is friend and sister to Ismae and Sybella.

Unlike the other girls, Annith has spent her life in the convent since birth. Annith has been waiting and longing for years to be sent out on an assignment, like her sisters before her.
One day while spying on the Reverend Mother, Annith discovers that she is not meant to mortal heart robin lafevers the convent, but to stay forever and be the next Seeress.

I've tried to keep my thoughts below as spoiler free as possible, even if you're new to the series. The women 1 The Duchess of Brittany: As countries, armies and suitors surround her, trying to control her and take away Brittany's freedom - many in the mortal heart robin lafevers of "helping" - Anne stands firm in her convictions and desire to protect her land and people.
Mortal heart robin lafevers was moved so much by Anne's relationship with her sister, and Isabeau's own character. There's a scene in this book that involves Isabeau and another individual that was an incredibly powerful moment in this series.
I loved the entire historical context. I love that LaFevers chose to set her story of assassin nuns into Anne's world. I think the way the historical aspects of this story conclude are riveting and exciting, including the fantasy weaved into tale.

Anytime a book causes me to do more learning about the past, it is a plus for me. But her mortal heart robin lafevers fears are realized when she discovers she is being groomed by the abbess as a Seeress, to be forever sequestered in the rock and stone womb of the convent.
Feeling sorely betrayed, Annith decides to strike out on her own.
She has spent her whole life training to be an assassin. Just because the convent has changed its mortal heart robin lafevers doesn't mean she has Oh, the His Fair Assassin books. Grave Mercy and Dark Triumph held me at rapt attention, and the delayed wait for Mortal Heart only delayed by six months, but still was painful.
